Facilities Technician

- Tacoma and Eatonville, WA

Rainier Connect is currently accepting resumes for a Facilities Technician. Facilities Technicians work both inside and outside to build, install, test, and repair services for customers. Candidates need to be comfortable with the primary responsibilities, and qualifications listed below.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Installation of Phone, Cable, and Internet services
  • Installation of aerial or underground drops
  • Place aerial or underground copper, coax and fiber cable
  • Educate customers on use of service
  • Analyze quality and determine acceptability of video/audio delivered upon completion of installation
  • On call during scheduled time periods, and respond to calls as needed
  • Operate and maintain assigned vehicle in accordance with company guidelines
  • Ensure vehicle is stocked with necessary equipment
  • Coordinate with other departments as necessary to ensure customer satisfaction and problem resolution
  • Maintain a sense of urgency and consistently meet deadlines
  • Accurately completes required paperwork and documentation associated with each job assignment

Secondary responsibilities include:

  • Performing copper, coax and fiber splicing
  • Construction work such as placing cable, installing conduit, and working in open excavations
  • Work with heavy duty power equipment as well as small tools in the installation, repair and maintenance of outside plant facilities

Skills and Abilities:

  • Comfortable using computers and devices, including hand-held models to update work status and check new assignments
  • Technical training in phone installation, cable installation, or similar field
  • Current first aid, CPR, or Flagger training is a plus
  • At least 1 year experience as an Outside Plant Technician or Installer

Requirements:

  • High-school diploma or equivalent required
  • Possess a valid state driver's license and non-negligent driving record
  • Ability to frequently move/lift 75lbs
  • Willingness to work outside in all weather conditions
  • Willingness to work in attics, basements, crawl spaces, manholes and other similar places
  • Climb poles, ladders, and is comfortable working aloft with hand tools
  • Work overtime and holidays as service conditions require

Typical traits required for this position:

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Desire to learn new skills
  • Comfortable supporting customers on site, and in person

Desirable Certifications: 

NCTI/Jones, TIA, WA state low voltage license, or relevant industry certifications a plus


 

 


Systems Administrator

- Tacoma, WA

What does a Systems Administrator do at Rainier Connect?

As a Systems Administrator at Rainier Connect, you will be part of a team responsible for high availability server infrastructure, DHCP, Radius, DNS services, and internal systems.  This team designs, implements, monitors, and maintains all systems used for both employees and customers.

Below is a short list of typical tasks we would expect a Rainier Connect Systems Administrator to perform on a regular basis: 

  • Build and maintain servers, both hardware and virtual
  • Diagnose problems with server/service availability
  • Support 3rd party applications in both internal and customer facing scenarios
  • Create detailed documentation and systems diagrams
  • Work closely with the network engineering team to create and support new systems and services
  • Develop and support internally created applications and services
  • Work with a Linux command line efficiently and effectively
  • Perform after-hours maintenance (OS/software updates/patches/etc.) on regular intervals
  • Design new solutions using open source and commercial products
  • Provide impromptu training for team members and our technical support group

What qualifications are important for this position?

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years applicable systems administration experience. Industry or vendor certifications from Comp TIA, Red Hat, Microsoft, VMware, etc. are major pluses.

Systems Technician

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot services associated with virtual infrastructure.
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot storage solutions.
  • Performs and maintains backups.
  • Maintains equipment and software inventory.
  • Monitors systems for security violations, abnormal operating problems, resource issues, etc. 
  • Performs and schedules routine and preventive maintenance on systems.
  • Participates in determining cause of system or application failures.
  • Front line support for employees with computer, software, or mobile device issues. 
  • Read, interpret, and complete service orders, trouble tickets, work orders, and network diagrams.

What qualifications are important for this position?

Network Technician

- Tacoma, WA

What does a Network Technician do at Rainier Connect?

As a Network Technician at Rainier Connect, you will be part of the network team responsible for DWDM transport systems, fiber to the premise equipment, DOCSIS 3.0/3.1 equipment, and Ethernet networks. This team designs, implements, monitors, and maintains equipment used to deliver modern access technologies.

Below is a short list of typical tasks we would expect a Rainier Connect Network Technician to perform on a regular basis: 

  • Manage carrier grade switches such as a MetaSwitch
  • Install, configure, and test fiber to the premise equipment
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair DWDM systems 
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair central office equipment
  • Provide support or technical advice to sales representatives 
  • Troubleshoot with commercial customers over the phone and in person
  • Read, interpret & complete service orders, trouble tickets, work orders & network diagrams
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot services associated with streaming IPTV product.
  • Provide impromptu training for team members, and our technical support group

What additional qualifications are important for this position?

The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years applicable networking experience. Industry or vendor certifications from Cisco, Juniper, NCTI, Calix, MetaSwitch, Adtran, Lucent, etc. and experience installing, maintaining & troubleshooting transport and access equipment are all major pluses.
